The McCandlish Philips Journalism Institute is proud to announced that newspaper design legend Dr. Mario Garcia will be teaching a one-credit module on news design this coming fall at The King’s College.

"You will learn to do the essentials," Dr. Garcia said. "you will learn how to do it and do a basic design that looks good."  

Dr. Garcia is the CEO/Founder of Garcia Media, a consulting firm, and has been involved with the redesign of more than 700 publications in over 100 countries. Those news organizations include The Wall Street JournalThe Washington Post and Die Zeit. Since 2013, he has been teaching at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism as the Hearst Digital Media Professional in Residence.

His experience and reputation as an innovator in the area of newspaper and web design is unparalleled," said Professor Paul Glader. "As journalism continues to grow as a major at King’s we want to present students with the tools they need to succeed in this ever-evolving field."

Dr. Garcia received his Ph.D. from the University of Miami. He also blogs daily at Garciamedia.com. He is the author of 13 books, the latest of which is a digital one: “iPad Design Lab: Storytelling in the Age of the Tablet.

The one-credit news design course is part of a series of "j-skills” modules presented by MPJI at King's. Others have included video journalism, photojournalism and audio storytelling.
